First a few words from a wise person…

“Focus not just on the quantity of time, but even more importantly, on the quality of time you spend on what is important to you.” ~ Shirzad Chamine

Cultivating a positive work-life balance ⚖️

We’ve all heard the phrase “work-life balance” thrown around, but what does it really mean? How can you create a balance between work and life so that you can be successful in both? It’s not always easy to find the right mix, and sometimes it’s easier said than done. One thing to keep in mind, you can read and absorb all the good positive knowledge out there, but if you don’t take action on it, then it’s nothing but like a shot of espresso to your brain (dopamine). We have to be intentional about what we want. Here are some tips for cultivating a positive work-life balance.

Take Time for Yourself
The key to maintaining a healthy work-life balance is to make sure that you take time for yourself. This means taking breaks throughout the day to step away from your desk and do something else—even if it’s just for a few minutes. This could be anything from going for a quick walk to reading a book or listening to music. You can also practice some mindful breathing, which could be as simple as taking 3 slow inhales/exhales. Taking breaks will help you stay focused and productive when you get back to work, as well as reduce stress levels.

Set Boundaries
It’s also important to set boundaries between your work and personal life. Setting boundaries helps ensure that work stays where it should—at the office—and personal matters stay at home. This includes making sure that you don’t bring unfinished projects home with you or answering emails or even business calls after hours or on weekends. With the rise in working from home, it’s become extremely important to set boundaries. Setting these boundaries will help make sure that your personal life isn't being overrun by your job.

Prioritize Your Tasks
One of the most important things when trying to maintain a healthy work-life balance is learning how to prioritize tasks effectively. Creating lists of tasks can help ensure that important items are completed first, while more mundane tasks get pushed aside until later in the day. Prioritizing tasks will also help reduce any feelings of overwhelm, which can lead to burnout if left unchecked. I like to plan out each day on paper so I have a general guideline of what needs to get done, given sometimes all of it may not get done.

Finding the right mix between work and life can be tricky, but with proper planning and self-care, it is possible to achieve a positive work-life balance. By taking time for yourself, setting boundaries between your job and personal life, and prioritizing tasks effectively, you can start cultivating a healthier relationship with your job—and with yourself! Remember: there is no one-size-fits-all solution; everyone's needs are different so take some time to experiment with different approaches until you find one that works best for you!

Positive Intelligence By Shirzad Chamine

I recently was given this book by Kenny Harper of Growth Amplifiers, and it is one of the BEST books I’ve read. This book lays out a model/framework to help us maximize our success in life and work. The author, Shirzad Chamine, gives us a way to unlock the potential within ourselves - by measuring our Positive Intelligence & recognizing the “Saboteurs” inside our minds that are always sabotaging us. The author defines Saboteurs as a set of automatic & habitual mind patterns, each has its own voice, beliefs & assumptions that work against your best interest. Saboteurs are essentially the root causes of stress, anxiety, fear & other negative feelings that we experience.

Check out the book and you can also take a free Saboteur assessment to help you see which ones are dominant inside you. https://www.positiveintelligence.com/saboteurs/
