5 Minute Friday - Issue #3 - Your WHO, WHAT, WHY, & PURPOSE….
Welcome to the 3rd issue of 5 Minute Friday from The Backpack CPA! Every Friday I'll share a short email with tips & resources to get you thinking about your
Professional & Personal Development, Storytelling/branding & most importantly Learning!
But first, a few words from someone much wiser & smarter than me...
“The secret of success is making your vocation your vacation.” -Mark Twain
💪 Professional & Personal Development
After coming back from Xerocon I've been dealing with catching up on work, trying to implement all the ideas/energy I brought back, AND trying to finish tax returns for the upcoming 9/15 deadline!
All of this has created pressure and "stress," BUT I've learned over the years ways to handle the pressure & stress. For me personally meditation & yoga have been key in dealing with personal & professional stress.
Everyone has their own ways of handling these, whether it's through sports, dancing, meditation, reading or some other activity or practice. Do you have a practice or activity that helps you deal with stress in your personal & professional life? Let me know what it is!
🚀 Storytelling/Branding
Over the past few issues I've asked you to do some deep pondering about your WHO, WHAT, WHY, & PURPOSE....
But this week I'm going to take a small detour and introduce you to the Japanese concept of IKIGAI! The word Ikigai literally translates to 'your reason for being.'
So, how do you find your reason for being? There are 7 steps:
Identify purpose - write down a job/skill that you LOVE doing and that you are GOOD at!
Think about HOW you could get PAID or make living from your passions?
Can you turn your PASSIONS into PURPOSE?
List all the common STRUGGLES that hold you back from finding your ikigai. Is it family, finances, qualifications/education, society, clients, etc?
IDENTIFY how you can overcome each one of the struggles you listed - steps/actions you can take. Don't worry about if they are feasible or practical or not, but just start identifying ways to mitigate the struggles.
CONFIRM your ikigai - talk to a friend, peer, or an expert you know, and share with you what you've discovered through your self-assessment and get feedback. Devise a strategy or plan with someone.
EXECUTE - TAKE ACTION
Note: Repeat steps 1 through 7 as often as needed or until you find your IKIGAI - REASON FOR BEING!!!
