The Power of Paying Attention 👀
Sorry for the late email today, just got done with QuickBooks Connect 2022 in Las Vegas. Today's theme is inspired by an awesome session I sat in this morning titled "Today I Noticed."
I'm going to share with you what paying attention means, the benefits and then in the apps/tools below share with you the "Today I Noticed" (TIN) mindfulness practice I learned in the session!
We live in a world where there are so many distractions that it can be hard to stay focused and pay attention. But paying attention is an important part of life, and it has a direct impact on our success. Whether it’s at work, in school, or even in our personal relationships, paying attention to the details can make all the difference. Let’s take a look at what paying attention means and how we a few of the benefits it provides.
What does it mean to pay attention?
The first step in paying attention is being present. This means being fully engaged in whatever you are doing or whoever you are with. It means putting away your phone and other distractions so that you can focus on what’s happening around you. Being present allows you to be aware of your environment and to observe the subtle cues that may not always be obvious but still have an impact on the situation.
A few benefits of paying attention!
We are able to pick up on clues or signs that may point us toward a solution or answer.
Feel less stressed & anxious, which helps be more focused & calm.
It increases our empathy, and allows us to connect better with others.
Allows us to be more present and feel grateful, joyful & grounded.
In conclusion, paying close attention matters more than you might think! Not only does it help us understand others better but also helps us make better decisions and solve problems more effectively by understanding all of the subtle nuances involved in any situation. So next time you find yourself distracted by something else while talking with someone else – pause! Step back into reality and really listen – chances are it will make all the difference!

Today I Noticed
So the two ladies that started the "Today I Noticed" mindfulness practice shared with us their super simple yet powerful mindfulness practice.
Per their website: "The prompt, “Today I noticed,” is an invitation to pause, observe, and then record (with words and a simple sketch) some of the tiny moments of everyday life that often slip by unnoticed."
So you just close your eyes, or keep them open, take a few deep breaths, and then observe/pay attention to things around you, it can be anything (thing, person, event, food, etc.) just pay attention to it. You can do this anywhere. And then once you feel like you've noticed something, you write down on a piece of paper "Today I noticed...." and what/how you noticed, and then you draw it out. Don't worry you don't have to be Picasso to draw, just draw! I'll share my TIN drawing from the session below (feel free to laugh at my artwork)!
In my TIN - I noticed a cool breeze blowing over my hands, which made me feel connected to the energy all around me! Might be a little too deep, but you can see how impactful this simple exercise can be! Enjoy!
