Emotional Intelligence 💡
What does emotional intelligence mean and is it even important?
Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand, use, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict. In a nutshell, it's the ability to understand the behaviors of others and controlling own emotions.
A lot of times external forces (other people/situations) cause grief, pain, stress, etc. to us internally. So if we're able to properly leverage our emotional intelligence we can block the problems caused by others and live a much happier and more peaceful life! Kind of like an anti-virus protection program for our human system!
Understand the 4 Attributes of Emotional Intelligence:
Self-management - You can control your feelings and what you do. You can stay calm even when something bad happens. You can start things and finish them. You can do things even when they are hard.
Self-awareness - You know how you feel and how it affects what you think and do. You know what you're good at, and you're not afraid to try new things.
Social awareness - You can understand how other people feel. You know what they need and what they are worried about. You can also tell when people are feeling uncomfortable. You understand the power that some people have over others in a group.
Relationship management - You are good at making friends, talking to people, getting people to agree with you, working together with a team, and solving arguments.
You're probably wondering how is this supposed to help me. There are many ways to use emotional intelligence in your daily life. Some different ways to practice emotional intelligence include:
Being able to listen to what others say about you
Being able to take responsibility for your actions
Being able to move on after making a mistake
Being able to say no when you need to
Being able to share your feelings with others
Being able to solve problems in ways that work for everyone
Having empathy for other people
Knowing why you do the things you do
