The Power of Storytelling 📚
One thing I've learned and personally experienced is we don't like to be preached at or even "presented to." Instead, we enjoy listening to stories or better yet watching them in the form of movies or tv/shows. Our brains are made to understand and process stories, which are another form of entertainment! I recently read a book called Building A Story Brand by Donald Miller and the main premise of the book is stories sell!
After reading the book I have become more conscious when I listen to or watch presentations and I usually tune out during ones that don't have a good story to tell! I'll share with you the highlights of the Story Brand Framework, but if you get a chance check out the book.
What Makes a Good Story 📚?
A story that is told in clear & simple language that is easy to understand and follow. More specifically, a good story should be about the client or person reading it or being told the story. The author/creator is never the hero in a good story! The human mind loves easy-to-digest messages and stories, so the more complexity you throw at it, the less it'll enjoy it!
The StoryBrand 7-Part (SB7) Framework:
Make your audience the hero
Define your audience’s problems
Be a guide with a solution
Create a clear plan
Include a clear call to action
Discuss the potential for failure
End your story with success
You're probably wondering how is this supposed to help me. Whether you're an employee, business owner, parent, spouse, friend, child, sibling, etc., you're always trying to sell something or solve a problem. Next time try applying the SB7 framework to a specific problem and see if you're able to "craft" a simple story that will help you sell your solution or push them to take some action!
Note: You can also apply this framework to your website to help you craft an easy & simple message that you can use in your messaging.
