💪 Professional & Personal Development
Burnout️🔥
While I am no expert I'm just going to share my own experiences and see if it's something you've also experienced. For me personally, burnout has made me consider alternative career choices and lose interest in even doing my current work. Many times we all experience similar things, but often don't think about it much until someone else mentions it. Burnout is something real that is not physically visible, but we all experience it at some point in our professional and personal lives.
Let's start off with the textbook definition of burnout.
What is Burnout️🔥?
A state of physical or emotional
exhaustion
that also involves a sense of reduced accomplishment and loss of personal identity.
Possible causes of burnout️🔥?
Work-life imbalance
Monotonous or chaotic work environment(s)
High-stress environment(s)
Taking on too many responsibilities, without enough help from others
Working too much, without enough time for socializing or relaxing
Lack of sleep
Lack of support
Lack of recognition or reward for good work
Perfectionistic tendencies; nothing is ever good enough for us
Ways to deal with burnout️🔥?
Identify the stressors
Connect with a cause or a community group that is personally meaningful to you
Limit your contact with negative people
Seek out help from either a coach or therapist
Take a break
Exercise & get plenty of rest and sleep
Do things that you enjoy
Set boundaries
As you can see burnout is commonly caused by either negative or toxic environments or situations. If we just have an awareness of some of the common causes of burnout then we can proactively work on ways to avoid it. Remember "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!"

The Maslach Burnout Inventory™ (MBI)
I recently attended a webinar called "Carrying the Weight of the World." One of the slides was on burnout and the speaker shared with us The Maslach Burnout Inventory™ (MBI) which I thought was pretty cool.
The MBI has 3 sections: A) Burnout, B) Depersonalization & C) Personal Achievement. Take the assessment below and see find out your burnout level.
What's your burnout level?
Total for Section A:
17 or less: low-level burnout
18 to 29: moderate burnout
30 & up: high-level burnout
