5 Minute Friday - Issue #1 - Self Limiting Beliefs
Welcome to the 1st issue of 5 Minute Friday from The Backpack CPA! Every Friday I'll share a short email with tips & resources to get you thinking about your
Professional & Personal Development, Storytelling/branding & most importantly Learning!
But first, a few words from someone much wiser & smarter than me...
“The more I live, the more I learn. The more I learn, the more I realize, the less I know.” - Michael Legrand
💪 🚀Professional & Personal Development
The very first episode I put out of The Backpack CPA podcast & video series is on "self-limiting beliefs." I feel like this is an important topic if you want to really grow and start creating a better YOU! Some common self-limiting beliefs we (all) face at some point in our lives:
*I don't have time.
*I'm not qualified enough.
*People will laugh at me, or what will they think of me?
*I don't have money.
Start thinking of some of your self-limiting beliefs and how you can start addressing them. Remember these are just "self" created beliefs. We all have the power within us to overcome these and GROW!
🎥🤩 Storytelling/Branding
As accountants/bookkeepers/tax professionals we often don't do a good job at establishing our own "brand," which often leads to us not being able to tell a good "story" of ourselves and our brand. We are great at telling the stories of other brands/people, right? I think this is because we often don't "toot our own horn," because it may come across as arrogant or self-serving, but if we do it the right way, it's great for both our personal & professional growth and development. Over the next few issues, we'll be digging deeper into some ways that we can create a better brand & also a better story of ourselves. We'll be using techniques/prompts from both The 10Ks of Personal Branding: Create a Better You by Kaplan Mobray & Building a StoryBrand: Clarify Your Message So Customers Will Listen by Donald Miller.
In the meantime, start by (deep) thinking of these prompts & making notes:
Who are you?
Who do you want to be?
How do you see yourself?
How do others see you?
Are your own perceptions or the perceptions of others preventing you from taking action/steps towards where you want to be in life?
Write it down or note it somewhere - you'll be continuously building on this!
📗💡 Learning
My favorite quote is the one above from Michael Legrand. I kind of learned the hard way that learning is a lifelong process. I used to think as soon as I'm done with college I won't have to ever read or learn anymore! But that was just the naive 20-year-old in me. I've developed a passion for reading the over past few years, and the more I've read, the more I've learned and grown both personally and professionally. At any one time, I'm probably reading 3-4 books. Here are the books I'm currently reading:
Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear
Building a StoryBrand: Clarify Your Message So Customers Will Listen by Donald Miller
The 10Ks of Personal Branding: Create a Better You by Kaplan Mobray
